Legislative Committee
Description
The SSWAN Legislative Committee meets bi-weekly, via conference call, during the Nebraska Legislative session to stay up to date on important and relevant state (and federal issues) that impact education and specifically, school social workers. Such areas of interest include, but are not limited to, child welfare reform, truancy policies, special education, mental and behavioral health services for children and families, and juvenile justice. Information regarding legislation of interest to school social workers is shared with the total membership. Action is taken to inform state legislators of the position of the SSWAN membership on bills of specific interest. The Legislative Committee continues to meet on a regular basis when the Nebraska Unicameral is not in session.
Goals
Research and monitor current legislation regarding school social work roles in education
Compile data relating to school social work roles at the state level
Compile relevant information/recommendations to present to SSWAN
